Seikowave recently tested it’s concept robot (MR Equus) leveraging our 3D NDT technology. This technology was tested in collaboration with a customer on a storage tank and on a pipeline. The robot has been in development for the last year.
Figure 1 shows the Seikowave 3DSL Rhino 3D imaging inspection system with an example of a 3D image that contains corrosion with welds. The 3DSL NDT Software Suite from Seikowave is able to analyze the image:
To determine distortion and strain at the weld
To calculate the remaining strength based on wall thickness (metal) loss per level I and level II methodologies
To provide input data for finite element analysis (FEA) for level III assessments
The mecanum wheels on the robot enable omni-directional motion. Rare earth magnets allow the robot to remain in position on the surface of the structure while the magnets do not contact the steel object.
Figure 2 shows the MR Equus concept being tested on a tank and Figure 3 shows MR Equus concept being tested on a pipeline. Both figures show MR Equus integrated with both a motion tracking solution and a wireless connection.
MR Equus is a NDT robotic platform that could be used to assess pipes, tanks, tank floor, and pressure vessel infrastructure. It is ideal for large area scanning providing auto-align and merging of images.
Figure 4 shows the output of a dent anomaly assessment. The dent occurred across a weld. The assessment algorithms developed at Seikowave are able to detect small mechanical deformations.
We look forward to further feedback following a major customer using the concept MR Equus during a plant turnaround the first quarter 2017.Seikowave recently tested it’s concept robot (MR Equus) leveraging our 3D NDT technology.
